Sony pushes Manga on cell phones

Sony seeks to become the number one provider of manga for cellular phones over other competitors.
Sony Pictures Entertainment plans to offer 300 titles on cell phones later this year in Japan. 10 popular manga artists including Shigeru Mizuki have signed exclusive contracts with Sony. People who read the manga on their cell phone pay 315 yen to download five manga titles a month by an artist of their choice. There is no word from Sony if these titles will also be available over the Sony PSP in the future.
NTT Solmare and TOPPAN Publishing, which also provide manga on cell phones, would combined only have half that amount available. Celsys, a software company based in Japan has developed a technology that browses through manga stories at a certain sequence and speed that the companies use to publish manga on cell phones. It is called Comic Surfing. Integration of sound effects will also be soon available.
