Legendary sci-fi comic series to become an Anime series produced by French and Japanese anime production companies

During the Tokyo International Anime Fair(TAF) this past weekend, Anime Production company Satelight announced that they have finished an anime project with some French production companies entitled Valerian (also known as Time Jam). Clips of the anime were shown to TAF visitors, who praised the high quality production of the anime.

Known for quality CG animation and originality, Satelight has worked on anime titles such as Macross Zero and Aquarion, which is scheduled for release this fall from FUNimation.

This time, the original work the anime is based on is a French comic by famous comic author Jean-Claude Mézières called Valérian. Aside from his work with comics, Mézières has also worked as a conceptual designer for many Hollywood films, including the 1997 science fiction film The Fifth Element. An English language version of the original Valérian comic has been released many times in North America, most recently in 2004.

The three companies involved in the project are Satelight, French Anime studio Dargaud Marina and French film studio and distributor Europa Corp. The series has a budget of 1.7 billion yen (approx. 15 million US Dollars) and has a target to create 40 episodes, making it a significant project in both France and Japan. The anime will be broadcast in France on the F3 network, as well as other networks in Europe.
