Funimation Licenses Appleseed Production Team's Upcoming Vexille

Funimation has announced at its Saturday panel at Comic-Con International 2007 the acquisition of Vexille - 2077 Nippon Sakoku (The Isolation of Japan), the upcoming all-CG film from the distributor Shochiku and the production team of the 2004 Appleseed movie. Funimation holds both theatrical and DVD distribution rights to Vexille in the North American and Latin American markets, and plans to bring it to various film festivals throughout North America next year. The DVD release will follow.
The plot of Vexille, which opens in Japan on August 18, centers on a special forces unit that infiltrates a neo-isolationist Japan to stop a biotechnological threat. Vexille's director and co-writer, Fumihiko Sori, worked on CG characters in James Cameron's Titanic, directed the Ping Pong live-action movie, and worked on the production team of Appleseed.
