Volume 28 jumps to best weekly position ever for Naruto, second for any manga

In its first full week of release, volume 28 of Masashi Kishimoto and Viz Media's Naruto manga has reached the highest position ever held by any book in the series on USA Today's list of America's top 150 best-selling books. It ranked at #17 for the week of March 3 to March 9, after jumping from the previous week's #73 spot. The volume is now only two positions short of the all-time weekly ranking record for a manga. The record is held by volume 16 of Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket, published in English by Tokyopop. For one week in the spring of 2007, Fruits Basket Volume 16 was the 15th best-selling book in the United States.

For the first time in several weeks, a manga title other than Naruto also appeared on the list. Officially published on March 4, Ken Akamatsu and Del Rey's Negima Volume 17 also sold well enough during the week to rank at #115.
