Vampire Hunter D: American Wasteland to ship in monthly American-style issues

ICv2 reports that the American comic book company Devil's Due Publishing has agreed with the manga distributor Digital Manga Publishing (DMP) to develop an original comic series based on Hideyuki Kikuchi's Vampire Hunter D novels. Vampire Hunter D: American Wasteland will ship in monthly, American-style issues. The companies have yet to announce the creative staff or the release date for the new comic series. Kikuchi first mentioned the discussions for an American comic version in 2006.

DMP has already imported the novels, complete with the original illustrations by Yoshitaka Amano (Gatchaman, Final Fantasy games), to North America in English. DMP is also releasing a separate manga version that is illustrated by Saiko Takaki, a former dōjinshi artist personally selected by Kikuchi. Streamline Pictures and Urban Vision both released the 1985 anime video adaptation in North Amercia, while Urban Vision also released the 2000 movie version, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

Kikuchi and Takaki will be attending Anime Expo in Los Angeles this week, and Amano will be attending Comic-Con International in San Diego, California later this month. Kikuchi, Amano, and New York Anime Festival will be hosting Kikiuchi, Amano, and novel translator Kevin Leahy in September.
