USA Today Booklist, September 1–7: Naruto, More Return

After four consecutive weeks in which no manga sold well enough in the United States to make it onto the USA Today newspaper's list of the top 150 bestselling books, the latest volume of Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto (Viz Media) landed on the September 1–7 list with a bang. In its first official week of publication, the volume is already the 24th best-selling book in the United States. This is the highest position a manga has ever achieved in its debut week, and the third best spot ever held by a Naruto volume.

Naruto was not the only Japanese comic to sell well this past week. The new fifth volume of Matsuri Hino's Vampire Knight and the 24th volume of Tite Kubo's Bleach, both also published by Viz, ranked at #100 and #105 respectively. Tokyopop got in the game with Warriors: Into the Woods, the latest in the manga-influenced adaptations of the Warriors young-adult novels about competing feral cat clans. This is the fifth Warriors comic volume that Tokyopop has released, and every one of the previous four has also been a best-seller, albeit never for more than one week.
