Japanese Box Office, March 28-29

Takashi Miike's live-action adaptation of the Yatterman science-fiction comedy anime remained on top of Kogyo Tsushinsha's Japanese box office chart during the March 28-29 weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, it added the equivalent of US$2,125,566 to its total of US$22,122,777 in its fourth weekend on 309 screens.

Doraemon: Shin Nobita no Uchū Kaitakushi (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's How Space Was Won, New Edition), the second anime film remake of a classic 1980-1981 Doraemon manga story that sends the title robot cat to space, rose back from #3 to #2 in its fourth weekend. It took in US$1,891,207 on 364 screens to add to its gross-to-date of US$16,278,770.

Drop, comedian Hiroshi Shinagawa's live-action adaptation of his own coming-of-age novel, climbed from #4 to #3 in its second weekend. It took in US$1,810,801 (4.2% more than the previous weekend) on 156 screens for a total of US$7,156,600. The film retells a loosely autobiographical story of how a boy was inspired by the Be-Bop-Highschool fighting manga to join a delinquent gang.

Toei Animation's Precure All Stars DX: Minna Tomodachi—Kiseki no Zenin Daishūgō film fell from #5 to #7 in its second weekend. It earned US$1,251,506 on 156 screens for a gross-to-date of US$5,229,600. This film marks the fifth anniversary of the Precure magical girl franchise.

James Wong and 20th Century Fox's live-action adaptation of Akira Toriyama's Dragonball fighting manga dropped from #8 off the top 10 chart in its third weekend with US$523,062 on 527 screens. Its total stood at US$7,581,413.

Zack Snyder's live-action film adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen graphic novel opened at #9 with US$1,126,244 on 218 screens.
