Funimation Brings Back Starter Sets, Adds Anime Classics

Funimation marketing director Lance Heiskell announced on Thursday that the American anime distributor will return to offering collector editions for anime titles, which will include a rigid box and a premium item. These premium editions will be available for the first pressing only and cost US$5 more than the regular editions — which will include a cardstock box, DVDs in slim cases, and no premium item.
Funimation will offer these two separate editions for all new series starting in 2011. Specifically, the two editions will be available for complete 13-episode series releases and for the "Part 1" of two-part (24- or 26-episode) series releases.
Funimation announced the premium items for two titles:
- The Sacred Blacksmith: 32-page art booklet with centerfold
- Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~-: A bullet chain necklace
Black Butler will receive a premium item, but Funimation is still working on its details.
Heiskell also announced that Funimation will launch a new line for its anime titles called "Anime Classics." Heiskell clarifies that based on a title's sales and fan reaction to the show, the last box set for any given title will either be in the "Anime Classics" line or the discounted "S.A.V.E." line. The first release in the Anime Classics line will be Gantz, due next January for a suggested retail price of US$49.98.
