2nd film in 4-part remake rated higher than 1st film's 12.7 in 2009

The television edition of the Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance film premiered on Friday with a 13.1% rating in Tokyo's Kanto area, according to the survey firm Video Research. Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance (Evangelion Shin Gekijōban: Ha) is the second film in Hideaki Anno and Khara's four-part remake of Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion television anime series.

After airing the film, the broadcast station NTV ran a preview for the third film, Evangelion Shin Gekijō-ban Q Quickening. The preview revealed that the third film will open in Japan in Fall of 2012.

The second film's Kanto rating was higher than that for the first film, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. The first film had its television premiere in July of 2009 on the same station and earned a 12.7 rating.

Mayu Watanabe, a member of the all-female idol group AKB48 who is known by her nickname "Mayuyu," was named ōen-taichō (support team head) for the television premiere of the second film. She appeared in commercials and a short segment to promote the broadcast.

Just as in other NTV Friday film broadcasts, the "TV version" of Evangelion: 2.0 had an optional, onscreen "scene guide" with text data linked to the scenes of the film as they played on digital televisions. The scene guide also displayed a graph for a special campaign called "Synchronization Rate Test" (a reference to a plot term in the anime). The graph rose or fll depending on how viewers do in an "Eva Cult Quiz" that ran simultaneously with the airing. When the quiz answers broke a certain threshold, the Synchronization Rate Test entered Berserk Mode. People who participated in this campaign could enter a giveaway for presents.

The film screened in American theaters in January, and FUNimation Entertainment released the film on DVD and Blu-ray in North America in March.
