Mitsu Izumi will draw a special anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai) Manga ONE-shot in the October issue of Shueisha's Jump Square magazine on September 4. This one-shot will cover the story at the beginning of the film version, which will opens on August 31.

Izumi launched the manga series adaptation of A-1 Pictures' original anime series last year. That manga series wrapped in March, and the third and final volume shipped in Japan in May.

The 11-episode anohana television anime ran on Fuji TV's Noitamina block from April 11 to June 23 of 2011. The story follows several childhood friends who try to reconnect in high school after a tragedy years ago. Tatsuyuki Nagai (Toradora!, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun) directed the anime off the scripts by Mari Okada (Toradora!, Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler). Masayoshi Tanaka (Toradora!, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!) designed the characters, and the singer-songwriter REMEDIOS (Reimy) composed the music. The film version will retell the story from Menma's perspective and add a new epilogue.
