Mushishi Manga Gets 1-Hour Anime Special In January

Hiroshi Nagahama returns to direct special at Artland adapting upcoming 2-chapter manga

Yuki Urushibara's upcoming two-chapter manga for her Mushishi series is getting a one-hour anime adaptation on January 4.

Hiroshi Nagahama is returning to direct the Mushishi Tokubetsu-hen: Hihamukage (Mushishi Special: Sun-Eating Shade) project at animation studio Artland. Yoshihiko Umakoshi is also returning to serve as character designer and chief animation director.

The anime special will air on January 4 at 11:30 p.m. on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11.

Urushibara is publishing the two-chapter manga in the January and February issues of Kodansha's Afternoon magazine, which will ship on November 25 and December 25 respectively. The announcement for the new chapters revealed at the time that a "top secret project" was in the works.

Urushibara's manga began in 1995, and finished in Afternoon in 2008. Del Rey published the the manga, and Funimation released Hiroshi Nagahama and Artland's anime adaptation and Katsuhiro Ōtomo's live-action film version in North America.
