The Kingdom of Dreams & Madness to open in NYC on November 28, & be sold via download on December 9

North American distributor GKIDS will begin playing the Studio Ghibli documentary The Kingdom of Dreams & Madness (Yume to Kyōki no Ōkoku) on November 28 in New York City. It also began streaming an English-subtitled trailer:

GKIDS will release the film via digital download on December 9, and on DVD and Video on Demand on January 27. American distributor Cinedigm lists the DVD for US$29.99 with a preorder date of December 12. The DVD will have subtitles and will contain extras.

GKIDS describes the film:

Granted near-unfettered access to the notoriously insular Studio Ghibli, director Mami Sunada follows the three men who are the lifeblood of Ghibli – the eminent director Hayao Miyazaki, the producer Toshio Suzuki, and the elusive and influential “other director” Isao Takahata – over the course of a year as the studio rushes to complete two films, Miyazaki's The Wind Rises and Takahata's The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. The result is a rare “fly on the wall” glimpse of the inner workings of one of the world's most celebrated animation studios, and an insight into the dreams, passion and singular dedication of these remarkable creators. Plus you get to meet Ushiko, the adorable Studio Ghibli cat!

Kingdom of Dreams & Madness premiered in Japan last year. The film already screened Toronto, San Diego, and Pittsburgh, and it will screen in Los Angeles on November 23.

GKIDS is currently showing The Tale of the Princess Kaguya in 29 theaters across the United States, and the film will show until December 19 in certain theaters. Box Office Mojo estimated that the film earned a fourth weekend gross of US$51,082 in North America, bringing an overall total of US$333,017.
