Gathering animates Yukiko Natsume's manga of penguin chick taking in Kyoto sights, cuisine

A website and Twitter account launched on Monday to announce that a television anime adaptation of Yukiko Natsume's Okoshiyasu, Chitose-chan manga has been green-lit.

The "soothing short" manga follows Chitose, a fluffy Emperor penguin chick living in Kyoto. The stories depict such familiar Kyoto locales as Togetsu-kyō bridge, Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Fushimi Inari-taisha shrine, and Kiyomizu-dera temple from a penguin's perspective, as well as Kyoto cuisine.

Kyō Yatate (Bananya, Sockie's Frontier Quest) is directing the anime at the studio Gathering. Koguma is composing the music, and VAP is producing and presenting the project.

The series will premiere on October 5 at 25:35 (effectively, October 6 at 1:35 a.m.) on the Tokyo MX and KBS Kyoto stations.

Natsume has been serializing the manga in Kodansha's Be Love magazine, and Kodansha published the third compiled book volume on March 13.
